Last night we kicked off the new decade with Modern Daze and Thunders of Wrath at Alma Mater in Tacoma. We listened, we danced, we drank. We made a few people laugh with our terrible jokes. And between it all we put on a show.
A very special guest also got to return to the stage. Since his departure from CIK in April 2018, Melvin Smith has been hard at work teaching and earning a degree. He also got married to a wonderful person this last summer and invited me to be the singer at their wedding. It was awesome. And last night was too.
Suffice it to say, he didn't lose any of his stage-savviness and songs like "The Raft"--a favorite of ours--had energy that was contagious. Great show, great turnout, and overall an excellent night. Thank you to everyone who came out, and here's to a new decade.
Oh, and Melvin... Thanks for believing in me man. I don't know if I would've been able to hop onto that stage for the first time--all those years ago--without ya. If there's anyone to thank for getting through to me, and helping me find confidence in my music, it's you. There will always be a place for ya on the stage, buddy.
