Starting off the new year, Cashing In Karma played the 5th Annual Bigass Boom Box at The Crocodile in Seattle, WA. Soon after the event, the band decided to part ways with Alex Thoburn.

2016-2017 - Earthbound

In January, Cashing In Karma releases their first single, "The Raft". The song is met with a strong response from the music community and becomes a staple of the band's live set. They play throughout Tacoma and Seattle and begin writing material for their next EP. For most of the writing process, Jonny  struggles with depression and is inspired to write about themes of existentialism, the pace of life, and interpersonal struggles. These songs eventually make their way onto the new EP, "Earthbound". Recorded at Decade Sound Studios,

"Earthbound" is released on November 26th. In 2017, Cashing In Karma play a handful of festivals and shows. They also release two music videos for "Earthbound" and "Slow Down".

2012-2015 - Beginnings and Jigsaw Road

In 2012, Melvin Smith meets Jonny Barrett at Pierce College and they begin to play music together. With the help of Yoslynn Olmos on drums, they start playing through material written by Jonny. Due to the high demands of college, Melvin steps away to complete his Bachelor's degree in 2013. During that time, Jonny continues to write music and tries to come to grip with his emerging mental illness.

In the summer of 2014, Jonny, Melvin and Yoslynn create Cashing In Karma and begin playing shows. Together, they write "Jigsaw Road" and go on to record it at Mountain House Studios a year later.

In August of 2015, Two songs from "Jigsaw Road" are featured on Click 98.9 --and along with performances--Cashing In Karma establishes themselves as a band in the music scene. Before the band's first EP is released, Yoslynn Olmos leaves the band to attend WSU and Will Chi joins the band as the permanent drummer.

Along with the fill-in bassist, Stevie Benton, Cashing In Karma released Jigsaw Road in November of 2015. Towards the end of the year, mutual friends introduce the band to Alex Thoburn. After one rehearsal, the band asks him to join and they perform their first show with him at the Hard Rock Seattle. Heading into 2016, Cashing In Karma--for the first time--has a full line-up.
